Local History

The Whitestone Historical Photograph Archive is part of the Our Digital World Project, which catalogues the photographs and stories of municipalities within Ontario.

2023-2024 Historical Photo Updates
In 2023, the Historical Society donated $5000 to the Whitestone Public Library to reopen and add to the collection of digitized photos. This collection will be a collaboration with Whitestone Historical Society to make these photos and stories available to the public.

Do you have historical photos, documents, or articles you would like to have added to the collection? Send us a message for more information.

Information on local veterans is being compiled on Local Wiki as a joint project with the Whitestone Historical Society and the library. Thank you so much to Sian, one of our wonderful student volunteers, for taking on the launch of the project! The wiki is a growing project, with additional information and history being added regularly. Check back for updates!

We have a large collection of local history books, including the Whitestone Historical Society's books and the works of John Macfie. The Historical Society's Book of Reference, which details local veterans, is also available to browse.

Ancestry Library Edition is free to use in library. Discover your past through census data, vital records, passenger lists, military records, and photographs. If you would like assistance when using this or any other of our local history tools, be sure schedule an appointment with a staff member.
